Open Your Eyes Now (D.A.Mackin)

This very special second song on my album needed a special video. I decided to shoot an artistic video in the beautiful village of Kirkleatham near Redcar which was the final home of my beloved Piano teacher Mr Joe Mullen. I have included lots of little Joe Mullen Easter Eggs along with some other personal touches. My Dad's Ford Cortina is present along with other inspirational men who have left an indelible impression on me. I discuss more of this in my blog entry.

Ossian's Hall (D.A. Mackin)

This is the opening song from The Hermitage Suite. I wrote it in 1997 after a revisit to Dunkeld on a memorable camping trip. It was here that I found a record shop in Dunkeld that just happened to be the base of legendary scottish singer songwriter Dougie MacLean, His music was a huge influence in the formulation of The Hermitage Suite. If you have never discovered the treasures of Dougie you are in for a treat.

I finally got back to The Hermitage this summer when I grabbed a dry day from the wettest of periods and was able to complete the footage that I have been collecting over many years. I was able to feature my late Uncles in the video in a homage to the wonderful men who helped shape my formative years after I lost my precious Dad at such a young age. The friendship and guidance that these wonderful men gave me will never be forgotten and they too came to love The Hermitage and all of its splendours as much as me.

The video is as cinematic as I can make it. It is my first venture into my new approach of music and movie making. The rewards of this process to my creativity have been refreshing.

Lockdown (D.A. Mackin/ Doctor Dansette)

From my collaboration with Electronic Music Wizard Doctor Dansette. This was written and filmed during the first Lockdown in April 2020. When the world really did shut down in fear of the terrible pandemic that hit us, this film and music capture the isolation of the time.

It is filmed along The Black Path near The River Tees. It captures the industrial heritage of Teesside (much of this architecture is about to be lost forever when it is demolished later this year) and lost treasures such as Grangetown Railway Station.

German Nights (D.A. Mackin)

From my Murder In The Rain album. This song was written over thirty years ago after a band tour of Germany in 1987.

It captures the feel of the town Sankt Goar on the banks of the Rhine.
